There's some thought people would all rather add to than take away for any health benefit. For example people would rather add red wine, to fight heart disease, to the burgers and fries rather than take away the fast food. So in this case, to fight colon cancer people might want to add a great catch and eat what's called a pescetarian diet. Seafood is the key ingredient in the pescetarian diet. Using hands, open peppers, clean out seeds and remove stems. Place dried peppers on baking sheet and into hot oven. Let toast 4-6 minutes until slightly puffed and crisp. Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Break into smaller pieces and place into food processor or spice grinder. Add oregano and grind to a fine powder. CHILI - 2 tablespoons vegetable oil - 1 medium onion, minced - 2 tablespoons tomato paste - 2 quarts tomato juice - 1 red pepper, diced - 3-4 jalapeños, minced (with or without seeds for heat) - 3 tablespoons white rice - 2 tablespoons brown sugar - prepared chili powder (above) - prepared beans (above) - 3-4 bay leaves - 1 tablespoon vinegar Heat oil in large Dutch oven. Add onion when oil begins to shimmer. Let onion sauté and turn translucent. Then add tomato paste and stir to cook out raw flavor, 30 seconds to one minute. Add the tomato juice, red pepper and jalapeños. Stir in rice and brown sugar. The rice helps to slightly thicken the soup and the sugar balances the acidity of the tomatoes. Bring the chili to a simmer. Then drain the beans and add them to the Dutch oven along with the bay leaves. Place on lid and let simmer until beans are cooked through, about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Stir every so often to ensure nothing is burning or sticking to the bottom. This shouldn't be a problem if you're using a heavy-bottomed Dutch oven. To finish the chili, add vinegar. This helps brighten or "wake up" the flavors after a long simmer. If the chili is too thick to your liking, thin it down with a little more tomato juice.

Vegan uses just plant proteins instead of fish such as beans and no animal products at all. Those who ate the pescetarian way dropped colon and rectal cancer risk 16 percent. It was likely that the seafood works against inflammation which has been linked to certain cancers. Inflammation is a silent marker in the blood that may play a role in several top risks such as cancer and heart disease. And that means people negate it by eating anti-inflammatory foods. But they don't always choose healthy alternatives.A lot of them tend to go to a lot of highly processed food that they weren't eating before. What happens is a lot of times, they become junk food vegans because Doritos are vegetarian, Oreos are vegetarian, said Kagy. In other words, they're not eating healthy. They're just not eating meat, so even older kids need help from their parents. Jennifer helps moms who want to offer better choices for their teenagers by going to their pantry and refrigerator, getting rid of processed items like these, and filling up the refrigerator with a lot of fresh choices. Doctors say cardiovascular disease starts in childhood. The Cleveland Clinic study saw remarkable improvements in kids with high cholesterol when they ate a plant based diet for just four weeks. You're not going to sneak healthy foods into a teen's diet like you can with younger kids. But you can cater to their taste. Jennifer's a vegetarian, and even though her husband and teenagers are not, she puts a healthier spin on things they like: lettuce wraps filled with peanut sauce over veggies, black bean chili and vegetable soups, and snacks with healthier labels. You have to cook. You have to go to the grocery store, she said. It takes time and planning, but the benefits will last a lifetime, your kids' lifetime.
